Euganean Spa Region

Nestled among the picturesque Euganean Hills, the Euganean Spa Region has been Europe’s leading spa area since Roman times. The water that flows from our hotel’s very own hot spring is rich in salt, bromine and iodine. It has an anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving effect on the numerous painful forms of osteoarthritis and rheumatic disorders, as well as all conditions involving the upper respiratory tract.

The water in Abano Terme comes from deep underground.  It acquires its beneficial properties over the course of an extremely long journey that takes approximately 25 to 30 years. It flows down from the Lessinia mountains in the Prealps and reaches a depth of 3000 metres, in an extremely hot environment. Along the way, it is enriched with minerals and gases that make it truly exceptional and unique.  The water flows from the Hotel Principe springs at a temperature of 84°C to 87°C.

Our mud bath treatments have a therapeutic effect because the clay undergoes a maturing process in contact with the spa water. The mud is taken from the lake near Arquà Petrarca and left in special tanks at the hotel, where hot spa water that is rich in salt, bromine and iodine flows over it in natural sunlight for 60 days.  The procedure fosters the growth of cyanobacteria and microalgae known as Diatoms. These microorganisms enrich the mud with exceptional healing properties and make it into an outstanding natural medicine.
